# Balance depletion

> Get a heads-up when your balance is trending toward zero

Balance depletion looks at your recent burn rate and warns you when your balance is on track to run out within a window you choose. Use this when you want a "you'll be out of money in X days at this pace" warning, *before* you actually hit zero.

## When to use it

* You want lead time to top up so your service never has a balance-driven outage.
* Your spend changes week to week and a flat dollar threshold isn't sharp enough.
* You'd like the heads-up *days* before [low balance](/docs/alerts/low-balance) fires.

Pairs well with [low balance](/docs/alerts/low-balance) — depletion gives you a forecast, low balance is the safety net when the balance actually crosses the line.

## What you configure

| Setting             | What it does                                                                                                  |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Forecast Window** | Number of days. Alert fires when your projected balance runs out within this window at your recent burn rate. |
| **Scope**           | Whose balance to watch — your personal balance, or your organization's.                                       |
| **Schedule**        | How often to evaluate — hourly, daily, or weekly.                                                             |

Organization scope is available if your role can see organization-level billing.
