# Low balance

> Get notified immediately when your balance drops below a dollar threshold

Low balance alerts you the moment your balance falls at or below a dollar amount you set. Unlike [balance depletion](/docs/alerts/balance-depletion) — which forecasts ahead — low balance is reactive and fires as soon as the threshold is actually crossed.

## When to use it

* You want a hard floor: "tell me the second I'm under \$50."
* A safety net under [balance depletion](/docs/alerts/balance-depletion) — the forecast can miss; a flat threshold won't.
* Accounts with irregular usage where forecasting isn't reliable.

## What you configure

| Setting               | What it does                                                     |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Threshold Dollars** | Dollar balance at or below which the alert fires (default `$5`). |

This is a reactive alert — no schedule, no scope picker. It evaluates when traffic comes through your account.

## How you're notified

Email and/or SMS, based on your preferences in **Settings → Notifications**. A cooldown prevents repeat notifications while the balance stays below the threshold. See [the alerts overview](/docs/alerts/overview) for delivery details.
